Quincy Jones gives us his thoughts on Diddy…
Wednesday, Spotify launched a new app, which allows listeners to hear playlists created by prominent artists. Among the artists present to celebrate the music program’s latest development was Quincy Jones, legendary producer, conductor, arranger and musician. According to XXL, Jones took a swipe at Diddy’s musical know-how by stating that “[Diddy] couldn’t recognize a B-flat if it hit him.” Ouch. He then continued by explaining that Diddy’s talents lay in his business acumen and not his contributions to music. “P. Diddy has a doctorate in marketing,” Jones clarified. “He’s got clothes companies and Ciroc Vodka.”
In the wake of his quotes being made public, Jones has backtracked a bit and took to his Facebook page to spin the statements. He wrote:
No controversy, no diss. I have nothing but love and respect for Diddy and all that he has achieved as an artist and an executive. Always have and always will.
This is not the first time Jones has offered his withering assessment of hip hop’s biggest producers. In 2010, Quincy created a mild storm in the music world by declaring that Kanye West was “just a rapper.”
